Kreis 3 your mornings just got a lot better!
For those of you who pass by Goldbrunnenplatz regularly you might’ve noticed the newest addition to the area in the form of an Espresso Bar. It opens at 6am and we all know a fresh cup of coffee is the perfect way to wake yourself up in the morning and make the journey to work more enjoyable.
The idea of the bar all started with one of the owners who loved drinking Vivi Kola when he was younger.
Vivi Kola was the first Swiss coke that was on the market from 1938-86, after which it disappeared after the introduction of Coca Cola and Pepsi in Switzerland.
It was relaunched in 2010 by Christian Forrer who grew up in Eglisau, where they produced Vivi Kola.
After the relaunch it was being bottled in the original factory. However, it closed and it is now being bottled in Knutwil.
Vivi Kola is sold in their store in Eglisau, in their Espresso Bar as well as various shops in Switzerland.
Christian always knew he wanted to do more with Vivi Kola and on a trip to Cape Town he discovered a café that roasted their coffee in-house.
He figured coffee and coke fit together perfectly seeing as they both contain caffeine. Thus, the idea of roasting coffee in Eglisau was born with their Vivi Café.
They have a variety of coffees all with different background stories, from monsoon coffee from India to a coffee that supports an orang utan project.
The owners renovated the espresso bar themselves and even have a take away window allowing them to maximise the small space they have.
There are no chairs and is based off the idea of Italian espresso bars.
You come in, order a good cup of coffee and either drink it at the bar or have it for take away.
And they make fantastic coffee which is probably the most important factor and what you’ve been wanting to know all along…
Mad crushin’ on the gold countertop and the cool logo.
And for those of you who aren’t coffee or hot beverage drinkers, don’t worry there are plenty of other choices.
This is my favourite part of the Barista Goldbrunnen:
Sure there are plenty of us who would like one of these beside our beds…
