Coming soon – Vietnamese eatery

Unlike the name suggests, the new Vietnamese eatery Coming Soon is actually already open and you should really go.
I went to try it out with Harry and Carrie from Harrysding the other night and it’s always fun going to places with people who don’t mind waiting 10 min while you take pictures of the food from every possible angle. And it’s even better if they’re doing the same thing!

Inside the location is simply but nicely decorated and the turquoise-green wall is definitely my favourite accent. You either sit at the low tables on stools, at the long table with other people or at one of the “normal tables”. It sounds like a lot but because it’s spacious you don’t feel like you’re sitting on top of each other.

We started off with goi du du (green papaya salad), goi cuon (Vietnamese summer rolls) and goi ngo sen (salad with herbs and lotus stem). My family and I are always on the hunt for the best papaya salad and this is definitely one of my favourites.

*Note: thank you Harry for the excellent lighting! This wasn’t all too easy as the place is romantically lit, great for dinner but very unfortunate if you’re trying to take decent looking photos.Coming soon - Vietnamese eatery // L.Alexandra

Next up mains! We had mien ga (chicken stock with chicken, young bamboo, glass noodles and herbs), pho bo (beef stock with cow filet, beef shoulder, rice noodles and herbs) and bun cha (minced pork balls and bacon with rice noodles, vegetables and vietnamese herbs).

There’s nothing better than a warming and nourishing soup in winter.
And I like the fact that you get to add your own herbs and sprouts and spices (be gentle on the sriracha sauce – I made mine way to spicy!)

Dessert was my least favourite part of the meal and I probably wouldn’t order it next time. But that may just be because I am generally a more savoury than sweet person…

We had trai cay (fresh fruits), che khoai lang nuoc dua (warm coconut milk with fruits and sweet potatoes) and banh khoai mi (manioc cake with coconut milk). The dessert portions are small so you’ll definitely still be able to eat one after your meal.

I really like Coming Soon for it’s amazing food, laid back style and friendly service.
I will be back.
Soon.
